Markos has never been alone. Born to loving parents, with a twin brother who was hardly ever separated from him and two younger adopted siblings, Markos grew up in exceeding comfort. He took both his studies and hobbies very seriously and excelled at anything he put his mind to. While there was certainly some gossip amongst the noble houses over two tieflings born to human parents (due to infernal heritage on their father’s side), that hardly ever impacted Markos and he gave little thought to his station in life.That was, until Dorian was adopted when he was 11. Suddenly, Markos feared that perhaps he and Stavros were somehow inadequate as heirs and their parents were seeking a better child. But it was hard to focus on that uncertainty when Dorian was just so cute. It was the first time Markos realized that he could help take care of someone smaller and weaker than him. Stavros had always been his equal in play, but he had to be careful with Dorian. He never wanted anything to hurt the new baby.
By the time Diva was brought home a few years later, Markos understood that it was kindness that motivated his parents to adopt his younger siblings, and not any failing on his part. He doted on Diva, anything to help her feel welcome and at home in a life so different from the one she had before. He strove to be a good example for them and embraced his role as an elder brother. He became very protective of his siblings. This extended to sometimes playing the mediator between his siblings and their parents, and he would often take on responsibilities he did not want to fall on the others. He is sometimes torn when his siblings have their own obligations that he can’t fulfil for them (like Diva’s marriage or Stavros’s training as a Paladin), but at the end of the day, he defaults to believing their parent’s know best.When he was 18, he was informed of a long standing tradition between House Durango and The Monasterilia de Esmerelda; in which one child of each generation of the Durango family would offer their service to the monastery and better learn how to fight monsters. Aware of the Family’s renown as Dragon Hunters and taking his responsibility to continue that legacy very seriously, he agreed to be the one to go. He knew that Stavros in particular would not fully understand his choice, but he felt that as the eldest brother, he should be the one to fulfill this obligation. He did not want to force any of his younger siblings to take on this burden.Once he arrived at the monastery, he was quickly inducted into a secret order of Blood Hunters. He underwent the ritual of the Hunter’s Bane, which altered his life’s blood with ancient hemocraft magic and tied his body to dark powers. This allows him to forfeit his own health to destroy monsters and put his life on the line to protect others in the most literal sense.

Born to the noble Durango family of the 99 Houses in the nation of Oskania alongside his twin brother, Markos. Despite being born from human parents, the twins are tieflings due to their father having infernal blood in their ancestry. Lebriah sometimes had trouble telling them apart when they dressed and acted the same, though Martyn somehow always knew which was which no matter what they tried. Stavros relished in the life of luxury that nobility provided and was rarely, if ever, seen without his twin brother. Though only younger by six minutes, he looked up to Markos with admiration. Stavros was often the one to get into trouble and if Markos didn’t get him out of it, he was there with him in the thick of it. As a boy, Stavros loved the idea of being the heir of the Dukedom and assumed that Markos would be coruler with him, though he thinks Markos would be a more capable leader than he would be.When the boys were eleven, a baby firbolg, Dorian, was added to their family. Stavros was initially apprehensive to the thought of having another sibling, but seeing his tiny baby brother’s tiny little paws was enough to convince him that this little creature needed big brothers to keep him safe. Being a big brother was easy when he had Markos as an example. It was not long after that Diva joined their family and he learned that he had a life of luxury that few else could afford (though how huge the disparity was he still didn’t fully grasp). He wanted for his sister to never be poor again.
When his parents told him and his brother of the long standing tradition between House Durango and The Monasterilia de Esmerelda, Stavros did not take well to the idea that Markos would be sent to the monastery without him. His mischievous wiles became frustrating tantrums, and he shirked most of his responsibilities to drink and party and abuse substances. After making an embarrassment of himself at a noble event hosted by the Durangos, his parents resorted to enlisting him to train at the Vigilant Eyes of the God in the city of Baal to become a Paladin in hopes that structure and discipline would benefit him. He spent his adolescence and early adulthood unaware of just how privileged his station was, until he was sent to the Paladin order; his nobility offered him no preferential treatment from his superiors, and was met with derision from his peers more often than not. He was frequently singled out by an elven Paladin from a rival House, Renato, who had it out for Stavros and did his best to make Stavros’s life as miserable as he could. They had a tumultuous affair (they hatefucked lol) and never managed to resolve their hatred of one another. Stavros did have one friend in the order, an orc woman named Liesl Faulerknochen who serves under the allied House Godfrey who showed him kindness, but also brutal honesty that he often needed to hear.After taking his Oath of Devotion, he was usually stationed near Baal as a guardsman or to neighboring towns to deal with monsters. Despite his miserable time training, he excelled at killing and looked forward to monster hunting missives, taking great pride in his abilities.

Diva was born to a pair of merchants in Jericho, the capital city. They were poor before, but the addition of a mouth to feed made each coin stretch to breaking.For 5 years they barely scraped by - until Diva's parents came up with a plan. On Diva's 5th birthday, they said they were taking her on a special trip.
They brought her to an inn and abandoned her.For 4 weeks Diva wandered the streets in her little dress, surviving off the kindness of strangers who fed her and gave her a place to sleep. One day, for some holiday she's long forgotten, Martyn and Lebriah came to visit Jericho. Lady Lebriah saw the wretched little girl and her heart shattered - she scooped up Diva and decreed, "you're safe now, you poor dear."
Back at home, Diva was quiet and reserved. Constantly afraid that all of this would either be a dream or be tsken away, she did what she was asked to, but it took years to open up to her siblings.She learned combat under Martyn and learned well, but her true domain was with Lady Lebriah at court. Learning the mannerisms of nobles, slowly grasping the unspoken rules...she excelled, and it was decided Diva would succeed Lebriah in the Council after she retired.She and Markos have the most traditional sibling relationship, older brother protecting younger sister. With Stavros, Diva loves him dearly but is also very concerned. She looks at him and sees a candle in a wind tunnel. Dorian and her are gossiping, teasing schoolgirls. Close, happy, and easygoing.After the fall of Wintertop, she stationed herself in Jericho to act as the council representative for the Durango family, much like her mother did before her. Diva's siblings miss her immensely, and always carry her in their hearts.

By it's look and make the ship appears to be of a design dating back to ancient Netheril and the promise of wealth and power residing in it's hull has eclipsed all other concerns. King Corrine of Jericho has requested someone to intercede on his behalf and keep the two lordships from threatening the tenuous peace between the houses.

the story so far...
session 01 - homecoming arc - 05/05/25
Lebriah and Martyn Durango sit at the head of the breakfast table surrounded by their children, Diva (human), Dorian (firbolg), and the twins Stavros and Markos (tieflings). Diva had been shadowing her mother at the noble council meetings, Dorian had been not enjoying bard school but didn’t know how to tell his parents, Stavros had been sent to the Vigilant Eyes of the God to become a Paladin 10 years ago in hopes that he’d gain some discipline (it didn’t work), and Markos had been training in secret blood magic fighting at the monastery. Martyn asked Stavros what he’s been up to, as the siblings stopped receiving letters from him 4 years ago. Stavros begrudgingly said, “Just busy is all, missives from the Order. I've been fine, it was all fine. I like killing monsters, and I'm good at it. Whatever it was you were hoping I'd gain from the Vigilant Eyes, well, I hope you got what you wanted. It was fine.” Little did he know, these would be his last words to his parents before they met their untimely deaths.
Some soldiers were eavesdropping on the siblings while they all suited up to go kill some dragonelles, so Stavros threatened them with some back up from Diva teehee. Diva brandishes her hexblade rapier, winking with a flourish of warlock magic. Markos and Stavros had been traveling together for some time, and were proud to see how their younger siblings have grown up, notably with Diva’s new warlock powers. The Durango house is not known to dabble in darker magicks often, and something like this could be the talk of the town if it were to be leaked. Stavros intimidatingly pulls on a glove while telling the other soldiers that they better not speak a word of gossip about them to their “husbands, wives, whoever waits for your eager word back home.”
After trekking up the mountain, the twins were first to hear the horde of dragons that breached the horizon, and they saw the elder red dragon Ingelokastamazilian. The massive dragon had their home in his sights to set ablaze. Stavros and Markos looked to the sky as Ingelokastamazilion soared above and roared his intent to kill Duke and Duchess Durango and take control of Wintertop, the Durango family home for generations. The dragon that attacked is a famous one around the area, a massive Ancient Red Dragon known colloquially to those that live around Winterhome and the surrounding area as ‘Old One-Eye’.
By the time we made it back to our home, the dragon made an ultimatum for the Duke & Duchess of Wintertop, our parents: sacrifice themselves to spare their people, or live & the dragon would kill everyone else. They told us how to escape, and asked us to live and take back our home. Our characters' parents, Martyn and Lebriah Durango, were injured after helping their people flee the burning castle and were ready to give their lives to keep them safe. In their final moments, Stavros was lost for words; he had spent a decade resenting them for separating him from his family to become a paladin, but despite the resentment he loved his parents. He thought he'd have a lifetime to forgive them, but that was taken in an instant by Ingelokastamazilion. Will he do any self-reflection and admit that he sabotaged his relationship with them, or will he instead direct that anger to the dragon that killed them? O you know he's doing the unhealthy option.
The siblings finally caught a moment to rest after the horrors they witnessed, Stavros screaming with anger and grief, and Markos reciting prayers to bring them comfort. Diva collapsed to the ground and quietly cried, "I'm an orphan again." They were all devastated. Breaking the tension, our nanny, Dotty, spoke with Dorian and gave him a piece of an egg shell from the very egg he was hatched from. Scales sprouted from beneath Dorian's fur in patches and ancient powers awakened in his veins; he was a firbolg, but with dragonborn ancestry unbeknownst to them all. Also it's fine that he was a bard college dropout bc his sorcerer magic was activated.
Me and Chrysa shouted it at the same time at this reveal so it's canon now that this is how the twins also reacted lmao.
Some kobold brigands and dragonelles interrupted their crash out, but Stav needed to let off some steam anyway. Stavros and Markos had been used to fighting together, but they were impressed at their younger siblings' abilities. Dorian's magic manifested as black flames, turning a kobold to cinders; Markos and Diva followed in kind to their respective threats, and Stavros threw a javelin through the neck of the last kobold as it attempted to flee. Their victory was short-lived as more, and bigger, threats appeared to test their skills.
session 02 - homecoming arc - 05/19/25
The siblings picked off all but one kobold and focused their sights on the ruthless dragonnel, though they were already worn down from the traumatic events that day. The boys struggled to stay conscious from the onslaught of attacks while Diva kept a steady offensive at a safe distance.
The dragonnel was relentless, but the twins' synergy in battle kept them on their feet with a little help from Markos's blood magic. Though Stavros was knocked unconscious from a deadly mauling from the dragonnel, Markos manipulated Stavros's blood to puppet his brother's body, landing a solid hit on their enemy. Annoyed with the tieflings' refusal to die, the dragonnel turned its attention to Dorian. After the blood magicks ran their course, Markos tended to Stavros's wounds enough to put him back in the fight. Stavros's reentry into the fray was short lived though when an errant kobold slung a rock at his head and knocked him out again (he only had 1 HP lol). Diva continued to be the MVP and Eldritch Blasted the shit out of the dragonnel while the boys took turns getting hit and aiding each other. The pesky kobold would follow up the dragonnel's powerful attacks with a tiny little rock to the heads of Dorian and Markos, surprising even himself that he was able to knock out three Durango lords. Stavros was beyond irritated with the little shit and torched the kobold's ass with a well aimed fire bolt. The dragonnel was equally irritated that the Durangos just would not die, and realized she was outmatched. As she fled, Stavros called her a little bitch and she definitely understood Common enough to know she was being insulted.
Exhausted but alive, the siblings counted it close enough to victory despite getting their asses handed to them. Cut them some slack! Their parents were murdered and even worse, they're poor now. With only slightly bruised egos, they took refuge in a nearby thicket and set up camp to tend to their wounds and attempt to get some rest after the absolutely harrowing day they had.
session 03 - homecoming arc - 07/28/25
They started the trek to Elesgiah, a neighboring city allied to our family, and made camp along the way. Instead of processing everything that's happened, Stavros rolled a fat joint and they all stuffed that grief down! They took turns keeping watch for the night, and in the morning the twins, being more accustomed to life on the road, cooked breakfast for everyone. The breakfast was more modest than what they were used to, but Markos at least had some delectable spices for their food.
The journey took multiple days by horse through a rarely used trail in the mountains, but luckily the horsies weren't harmed by Ingelocastemazillion in his attack! Dorian had two Clydesdales named Clyde and Dale, Diva a white horse named Mélancolie, and Stavros a black and white spotted Appaloosa named Merry. Markos has a fear of horses, so he chose to simply ride with Stavros on Merry. Even though it’s late summer, a cold snap in the mountains brought an early snow.
While traversing the mountains, a kobold fell from the peak into their path. He frantically called himself Roks the Sorcerer Supreme and claimed to have been fighting dragonnels on the mountain peak, as it was HIS mountain and he was defending it. It's part of the Durango family territory and when the siblings told him, "No, it's OUR mountain actually," he tried to impress and intimidate the Durangos with his supreme sorcery. His tiny little fire bolt just singed a nearby stump, and all of the siblings launched their own fire bolts (and eldritch blast) at the same stump and completely obliterated it. After some deliberating, threats of kicking him down the mountain, and sibling squabbling, Dorian picked Roks up and declared him part of the group now. Roks just goes along with it because it's better than the alternative of being kicked down the mountain.
They finally reached the outskirts of Elesgiah, where an older man and a woman our age waited for the surviving Durangos. Turns out, they have a bastard sister they didn't know about, Claudia! This was news to her as well! Her resemblance to the siblings' mother, Lebriah, was striking and they couldn't deny that she's their sister by blood. Well, half-sister. Turns out, infernal post-partum was literal hell and Lebriah had an affair after the twins were born. It was just a fling and Martyn forgave her (he loves his wife!!!), but they had to do something about the situation. It was already a scandal when the twins were born as tieflings and they had just quashed any rumors of affair with proof of Martyn's infernal heritage, but a child who was actually born of an affair would damage their noble name. Lebriah stayed at a nunnery that the Durango family funded under the guise of doing political charity work, and the nuns helped her through the pregnancy and birth of Claudia. Her and Martyn decided it would be best to leave Claudia in the care of the nuns and be raised as a cleric of Helm. Lebriah was able to keep an eye on her daughter from a distance, but regretted not being able to have a relationship with her.As a baby, she was left with a letter that revealed her noble heritage that was to be opened in the event of Lebriah and Martyn's deaths if that were to happen. Which it did, so she only just learned of her relation to the Durangos as well as the other siblings. They were hit with some overwhelming emotions at her resemblance to their mother at first, and she apologized if that brought them discomfort. Diva replied, ""How can your appearance be distressing when mama shines from your face?" Diva confided with Claudia in private that she was also an orphan before the Durango's adopted her, and that both of their experiences as orphans was something their brothers did not have. After a tender acceptance, Diva declared Claudia part of the family, and the boys dared not argue with their sister (not that they would've anyway; family is most important to all of them, and they look after their own regardless of origin). "Welcome to the family, sister," Stavros said, with a twinge of sarcasm as they all recognized it was dire circumstances that brought them together.
The sibling's internal thoughts:Markos is feeling very numb and struggling to process it. Now that he believes Claudia is their sister, his grief over losing their parents is mixed with complete confusion over why they were never told about her. There's a lot of their actions he's never understood but now will never get to ask them about. So he's stewing in all that, but pushing it down to make sure everyone can keep going. Gaining Claudia is a positive for him too tho, it hasn't all been loss.Stavros is definitely trying to hide how he's really feeling, but it's also a big mix of things he's trying to parse, similarly to Markos. He still has unresolved anger at their parents for sending him to the paladin order, and that's magnified when he learns about Claudia being a "mistake sent away" too. But he's also so glad to be with his siblings again, and is really clinging to that sliver of happiness. He would've cried a wae bit when it was just him and Markos awake between night watch shifts and the only thing stopping him from crashing out is needing to keep his shit together for his younger siblings. He was really relieved when Diva welcomed Claudia as family so readily; he was worried if she was rejected by the others then that would mean they would be quick to reject him too when he inevitably is too much to deal with.Claudia is scared and happy and possibly overwhelmed by her own emotions, she’s definitely gonna internalize that shit. “They tell me I look like you. I wanted to know you. I wanted to feel like I was a part of something. Like I belong. For years I’ve felt an outsider in the only place I called home. I suppose I’ll carry this feeling a little longer.” She's jealous, and hates that she feels that way. She sees Dorian and wonders how her parents could have adopted a firbolg, but not keep their own daughter. “Why wasn’t I allowed to grow up with them? Why did I suffer for your poor decisions? How could you take in a child when you wouldn’t even keep one bore from your own womb?”Diva is pleased to have another girl around, and is fond of Claudia, but some of that (which Diva doesn't wanna examine) is a selfish pleasure that she can see her mom's face again. Unbeknownst to Claudia, Diva has some similar thoughts of wondering why she was "good" enough for the Durangos to adopt. She was abandoned by parents so the thought that the mother she adores abandoned one of her own children is a real angry black mark across Diva's respect for her mother.Dorian has rounded into a weird numb indifference that might be internalizing as something later. Like, “Okay, all this has happened, new sibling we had no idea about? Like, why couldn’t our parents just handle it? They handled everything else, didn’t they?" But also he has a weird complex of superiority; a child of their blood was sent away yet he and Diva were considered "good” enough to keep? Then he’s upset at having that kind of thought, because he doesn’t want to see himself better than Claudia, but yet…the thought is still in there.
session 04 - homecoming arc - 08/25/25
Elesgiah stood in the distance, but in their path was dragonnel and band of kobolds. They were NOT gonna flop like they did last time they fought a dragonnel! They had a new sister to impress! Markos started off strong and imbued his blade with a Blood Rite.
The dragonnel knew Stavros was gonna be annoying so it slashed the shit out of him knocking him on his ass, but we have a cleric now so it's fine. So Stavros commanded the dragonnel to grovel and Divine Smited the shit out of it.
Dorian really got into his new sorcerer spells and thunder waved the shit out of the dragonnel too. They did way better this time around in combat than last time, and Claudia felt like fighting alongside her newly found siblings was Right.
